Jazeman makes history as first Asian to finish on podium at Blancpain Endurance Series
KUALA LUMPUR: Jazeman Jaafar made a historic debut in the Blancpain Endurance Series as he became the first Asian to stand on the podium in the competition after coming in second at the Monza Circuit in Italy recently.
Driving an AMG Mercedes GT3 with HTP Motorsport teammates Maxi Buhk and Dominik Baumann, Jazeman’s outfit finished the race just 0.341 seconds behind McLaren’s Rob Bell, Shane Van Gisbergen and Come Ledogar who won in 1:49.502s (96 laps).
HTP had set themselves up well for a strong race having taken pole but a pit limiter issue when Jazeman was driving the car hampered their chances of clinching victory.
Jazeman, who was the second driver during the race, said it was a memorable achievement nonetheless.
“I did not expect to be holding a trophy in my first race but it is such a great team, with two very good teammates who I am learning from and really enjoying using their experience,” said the 23-year-old.
