BMW Car Club of America brings high performance school to Motorsports Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — It was one thing to own a high performance car, but it was another thing to understand it.
“You’re driving a high performance vehicle, you need to know how to operate it safely. Got a lot of horse power, the cars got a lot of capabilities, we’re trying to bring your skill level up to match what the car can do,” said Bill Wade, Chief Instructor for the BMW Club.
Saturday was day two of a weekend driving school held by the BMW Car Club of America at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park.
Wade told WBKO it was an event they hoped would become tradition in Bowling Green.
“We’re teaching them car control skills that they normally wouldn’t get on the interstate, because it’s a higher rate of speed. Everything’s in a very safe manner, but we’re teaching you how to drive on a racetrack.”
The track was one that allowed for a great deal of speed, with many technical turns and maneuvers along the way.
Until the weekend driving school began, Dean Tumilty had never set foot on the track.
After less than two days of instruction, he was comfortable behind the wheel.
